A New Front Door Color

I gave my front door a subtle makeover.  I have to admit, the difference in color is barely noticeable.

But truthfully, I didn't love the old color.  It was leftover paint from our bedroom.  The color looks much darker on our walls, which I love.

So I selected a darker color, Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball(matched to Sherwin Williams paint).

I was in love after the first coat!

The color looks so good next to the bright white trim.  Glidden, White on White is my favorite white paint to use in our house.  It's clean and bright and the color is consistent in shade or sun.

A clean door mat, healthy plants and a few pumpkins give my porch a warm welcome.

I'm happy that I didn't have to spend a lot to give my house some curb appeal.

I'm absolutely happy with the new color.  I love it even more every time I pull up to the house.

A New Rug for the Family Room

I found a new area rug for our family room last week.  The style and design are perfect.  I really love the texture it adds to the space.

I love natural fiber rugs so much that I have them in most of the rooms in my house.  They're really low maintenance and I love the way they look over our flooring.

I purchased the old rug at Ross for less than $40.  It was a good one, it lasted for years.  Then my daughter's friend accidentally smashed a red velvet brownie on it.  I cleaned it as much as I could, but the stains were still there.  There will be no more red velvet brownies in this room. Ever!

So a 6x9 rug for under $100 makes me really happy!

Simple Fall Decorating

Out of all the seasons, autumn may be my favorite. Not only is the weather cooling down (finally making the annoying mosquitoes go away), but fall foliage makes for the best scenery. Something about the gradual turning of the green leaves excites me for the cooler season.

I love shopping at my local farmer's market for fresh produce and fall treats.

To welcome autumn, I introduced a collection of warm accents into my home. From deeper toned flowers to cozy knits, every room has at least one fall piece that brings everything together.

Pies, warm dinner rolls and caramel apples are favorite fall treats. This season, I've been delving into different recipes to keep warm. Keeping it simple makes for a foolproof dessert that everyone will enjoy.

As the seasons change, the decor on my entry shelf changes too.  Little changes can be so fun!  Mini pumpkins and mums are great fall decorations.

The colder seasons motivate me to think outside the box and try different ideas. To keep it simple, I played with neutral tones and textures that meshed seamlessly with what I already had.

Adding flowers and evergreens on both the porch and deck provided color as everything else begins to turn brown and leafless.

The season of autumn is the season of new things and exploring. With the holidays around the corner, I am motivated to try different things and put a twist on the classic fall home decor. Even starting small, like using white pumpkins instead or orange ones, makes a big statement in decorating your home. I love what this season is becoming and I cannot wait to experience the rest of what this year has to bring.
