Horchow Inspired, Lamp Makeover

Howdy folks!  I hope you had a nice weekend and enjoyed the spirit of the holiday with your family and friends.  My weekend was pretty low-key.  I didn't do much at all, which was fine by me!  On Saturday I went to Home Depot in search of some spray paint for my pineapple lamp.  With so many options I began to feel overwhelmed and decided to leave.  I want my lamp to be beautiful!  So I went home and searched the internet for some inspiration...

I came across this awesome pineapple lamp from Horchow, it was just the inspiration I needed!

As a reminder, this is what I started with.

And here she is now, all shined up and ready to glow!

Yellow suits her so well!

After taping the lamp off, I sprayed it yellow.  No primer needed this time!

I found the perfect lampshade at Target.  Target Never Disappoints!

I love this lamp with its new look.  There's nothing better than finding used treasures then turning them into something new!

Recent Thrifty Finds

I enjoy shopping second hand stores and finding treasures I can use in my home.  In the past I have found so much and saved a lot of money.  Of course there are times when I walk in and find nothing, but on a recent trip I was genuinely surprised by the selection.

First up, I found this pineapple gold leaf lamp.  What immediately caught my attention was its unique appearance.  After doing a quick search online I found a similar lamp priced much higher than the $20 I paid.  The lamp online is brass, mine is not, therefore I have no problems painting over the finish.

While in the same store I found a pair of scotch glasses.  Although my husband and I do not drink scotch I thought they would be the perfect accessory for a bar cart.  Which leads me to my next purchase...

I finally found a bar cart for the family room (man cave)!  I've been searching high and low, up and down for one at a reasonable price.  The heavens parted and the angels sang when I found this baby on Craigslist for $30!  It was originally $40, but I talked the seller down since the wheels weren't intact. Of course I would have paid what he was asking, but it doesn't hurt to bargain!

Other than the minor issue with the wheels, it's in perfect condition.

I considered painting it and posed the question on Instagram.  I received some great feedback but, in the end I decided to back away from the paintbrush!

I do have plans for the mirrored top though and maybe a little rub n buff for the wheels.  I can't wait to share the finished cart once I'm through styling it up.

Have you found anything while thrifting lately?

Very Berry Smoothie

One of the best things I love about summer is all the delicious fruit available to purchase at my local farmer's market.  I get so excited with all the plump berries coming into season and look forward to adding them by the handful to my morning smoothie.

I added a mixture of berries for a flavorful combination.  The sweet berries combined with creamy yogurt pair perfectly together.  Enjoying a delicious smoothie is the perfect way to start your day!

Directions

In a blender throw in a handful each of fresh blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, a cup of yogurt, and a cup of ice.  Blend until smooth and enjoy.

Man Cave Makeover

There is one room in my house that I have yet to show you.  The man cave man space, male sanctuary is actually our family room, but it's the one room in the house where my husband had complete control.  YIKES!!  He chose the paint that went on the walls, the flooring, accessories and so on.  The room represented him and all the things he loved; posters of his favorite movies, a comfy couch and a flat screen television.  It's a great room to entertain in.  Whenever our friends and family come over we all tend to gravitate to that room.

The room not long after we moved in
The room started off with beige carpet and flat paint.

After about a year we hired out to have the carpet replaced with laminate flooring and the walls painted...orange.  For the record I would just like to mention again that this was all. my. husband's. idea. ;)  I have seen some really nice rooms painted in a similar shade, but the color just didn't sit well with me.  At the time our bathroom on the same floor was green and our laundry room was blue. The colors didn't flow and I began to really dislike this room.

Then, our comfy chairs began to flake and peel.  Apparently bonded leather is rated as some of the worst leather around, which really upset us because the furniture wasn't exactly cheap!  So we saved our pennies and searched for furniture that would last more than a couple of years. When we found the sectional that we loved, I knew I could not allow our big purchase to sit in the room that I disliked most in our house.  So I kindly suggested to my husband that we should paint the room and update a few accessories as well.  And you want to know what he said...? He agreed, but on one condition, the movie posters had to stay.

We went back and forth deciding on a color to paint the room.  He wanted a dark color, I wanted white. In the end we agreed on Treasure Map by Olympic.  I love the how bright the room is now, even with all of our dark furniture.  I am pleased that we have a room that we both can enjoy. I tried to create room that would be comfortable to us both; a masculine room with a feminine touch.

So what do you think?  As much I thought I wanted to remove the movie posters, they're actually my favorite part of the room now.  Can you guess which one is my favorite?  Yep, I too am a huge Ryan Gosling fan!
